JDPSoft Digital Vault: Fast PC or folder
security
Digital Vault is a fairly simple program that makes it
possible for users to secure their documents and other data from prying eyes.
When installed, the first thing Digital Vault does is to
update itself over the internet.
Once open, there are two choices. The first is to encrypt a
single file, which can then be distributed or emailed. To view the encrypted file, other
users will need the free Digital Vault Reader, which can be downloaded from the StompSoft
web site.
The second way to use the program is to create a vault.
This is a password-protected folder into which users drag and drop files that are
automatically encrypted.
This is another useful feature, and one that can come in
very handy if a PC is used by others. It can be set to use the same master password as the
program itself, or each vault can have its own password.

JDPSoft Portable Vault: A simple utility to encrypt
portable storage
JDPSoft Portable Vault secures data stored on portable
devices such as USB keys and removable drives.
Just as with Digital Vault (see review, above), it works by
setting up a secure area or vault where it stores all the sensitive data.
Vaults are created on portable drives by running the
Portable Vault installation, while the storage device to be secured is attached to the PC.
Users then have to specify the drive letter of the portable drive.
To access the vault, users connect the device, run the
executable file stored on it, enter a password and then either add files for encryption or
decrypt those already stored.
256bit Blowfish encryption is used. With only about 2MB
needed for the vault software, it will not take up much room.
For extra security, all files stored within the vault are
hidden from general view.
USP: Easy to use; small footprint

Optical Character Recognition
Iris Readiris Pro 11: Accurate and quick OCR
Readiris Pro 11 is the latest version of this almost
ubiquitous optical character recognition (OCR) package. Little has changed externally with
version 11, but things are different under the covers. There is an increase in the speed
and accuracy of the recognition engine and an A4 sheet of copy takes five to 10 seconds to
be recognized after it is scanned in. There is extra PDF support so users can create a PDF
straight from a scanned page, and there are more than 70 minor changes.
The whole scanning process is simple: using the OCR wizard,
users select a source - either a scanner or an image - then the output type. It supports
most word processors and will export directly to a PDF. Then press 'Go'. Seconds later,
users have an open word processor document or PDF with text. If the text is incorrect,
users jump back into Pro from where they can tweak the settings.
USP: Fast, accurate OCR for scanners and images
